The Winemakers Research Exchange is a non-profit organization of Virginia winemakers pursuing quality improvement through practical experimentation in vineyards and wineries.
Experimental results are evaluated using appropriate chemical measures. Sensory sessions allow for blind tasting and group discussion of each project.
Results from past experiments are shared during sensory sessions, on the website, through newsletters, and at regional and national meetings.
Rebecca’s first vintage was 2011 in her AP Biology classroom making plum wine in the lab. While the experiment was technically successful (read: drinkable at best), it piqued a lifelong interest in the art of fermentation. Her experience in wine started in the tasting room at Veritas, and has since included the WSET level 3 certification, the cellar at King Family Vineyards, Kim Crawford in New Zealand, Moshin Vineyards in Sonoma, and, most recently, in the cellar and vineyard at Cunningham Creek Winery in Palmyra, VA. As a winemaker who has been involved with several past experiments with Joy and the team, she is excited to work with the WRE as the Exchange Coordinator, supporting the organization and the Virginia wine and grape producers.
